New version available! – ProteusDS 2015 v2.18
We are really excited to announce that a new version of ProteusDS is available for download on our website: https://dsaocean.com/software/proteusds/download/. We’ve been working on this version for a while now, and we hope it shows! There are many improvements that have been made, you can find the full change log here, or read the synopsis below.

Key enhancements in this update include:
- Program icons: If you’re looking for the old icons – you won’t find them. They’ve been replaced with new younger sexier icons. The PST icon remains largely the same, but PostPDS, the Configuration Utility, PQM and the new report tool all have distinct new icons.
- NEW: Report Tool application: The ProteusDS Report Tool application is brand new in this release. This application allows you to quickly post-process simulation results without running Matlab/Octave, Excel, or viewing the results files directly. An html report is created which can be viewed in a web browser, or imported into Excel. Two key report templates have been created for this release, one focused on rigid body and cable systems (“RigidBody Mooring”), and one focused on single leg moorings. The single leg mooring report is really designed with LE users in mind. For example, it will process if a cable end (buoy) has been submerged due to waves or current, generate a mooring arrangement, assess knock-down, report watch circle, and much more. You can also batch process a set of simulations using the report tool.
- Improved PST: There are many changes in PST as well. Firstly, you will notice new icons in PST and prominence given to the pre-visualizer. Secondly, the concept of “initial conditions” has been renamed throughout the UI as “state”. There are also new quick creation buttons for common DObjects. In addition, there is now the ability to duplicate and translate DObjects (including connections), and auto-connect cables with coincident endpoints with a point mass. Lastly, you’ll notice that there is improved documentation for the various DObjects, connections and features within PST itself.
- Solver updates: There are several solver changes of note, including: improved tidal turbine capabilities, new waypoint control modes, a ballast tank feature, submergence probe for cables, improved surface buoyancy calculations for PointMass DObjects and ExtMass features, and new rotational stiffness capabilities for RigidBody force connections. There have been a few small bug fixes as well, so we encourage everyone to update.
- PostPDS: A new cable node 0/N velocity plot is available in PostPDS. This is useful for checking if a single leg mooring simulation has reached steady-state.
- Touch friendly PostPDS and Windows 10 support: You can now turn on touch controls for PostPDS in the configuration utility. This allows you to use your tablet PC with PostPDS. Secondly, we have been testing ProteusDS on Windows 10 and have found no compatibility issues. ProteusDS works best with a mouse and keyboard desktop-mode PC (like Windows 10 and Windows 7). We suggest Windows 8 users consider upgrading to Windows 10.
- Tutorials: Tutorials have been revisited, as we’re constantly trying to improve them based on feedback from users and our own experience. There is a new tutorial on single leg moorings that we encourage all our oceanographer buoy-mooring designers take a look at. It walks through the use of the ExtMass and ExtMassCylinder on a complicated mooring, and addresses execution speed challenges with chain. This tutorial is a great test of the report tool and the new PostPDS plotting functionality.
Thanks for you continued support of ProteusDS! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to send an email to info@dsa-ltd.ca – or email support@dsa-ltd.ca for license or installation questions.
Kind regards,
DSA ProteusDS development team.
